Fran was born in Ecuador and raised in the United States by her Ecuadorian and Swiss parents. Nico, on the other hand, was raised in Verona, a small town in Italy. Later, he moved to the United States for a tennis scholarship. Whilst being away from home, he realized how much he truly appreciated Italian cuisine.

Together, they became closer through cooking meals, primarily Italian dishes. Through experimenting, Fran discovered her favorite ingredient to use and work with, pistachios. The two would often add pistachios to desserts and pasta sauces, whilst also experimenting with making pistachio spreads and creams. Something came to their attention while in the United States, searching for pistachio products, they surprisingly could hardly ever find any products that truly tasted like real pistachios. Most of the options they had were either colored bright green, had artificial flavoring, were overly sweet, or simply did not contain any pistachios whatsoever. 

Fran and Nico refused to accept this as a reality, so they took the initiative and changed it. During a senior capstone project in college, they created their brand, Pistakio. They formulated their own recipes and began producing their very own pistachio spreads in small batches. Not long after their business took off. They started selling jars of their spreads at a farmers’ market in Savannah, Georgia. Their customers noticed the difference in quality: real pistachio flavor, divine texture, and pure creativity.

Pistakio began as a small experiment between Fran and Nico, which quickly became a mission to create pistachio products that people in the United States could add to their pantry to become a true staple for their daily meal routines. Their brand focuses on authenticity, with each of their pistachio spreads coming from regenerative farms in California’s Central Valley. This means that Fran and Nico know exactly where their ingredients are coming from. Their pistachios have no unnecessary additives, artificial colorings, or mystery blends.
