For a long time, body care has existed on the margins of skincare culture. The face has always received the most attention, and innovation, while the body has always been treated with haste. Lotions, often chosen for how they smell rather than their substance, are slathered on quickly, almost as an afterthought.
This division never made much sense.
The body, after all, is where we live. It carries us through stress and rest, climate changes and hormonal shifts, long days and short nights. Its skin absorbs the environment as faithfully as it absorbs what we apply to it. And yet, until recently, body care has been framed as cosmetic rather than consequential.
Zack & Lucy enters the conversation with a quieter, more deliberate perspective. One that suggests body care is not a finishing touch, but a foundation. Not an indulgence, but a form of maintenance, one that supports the body’s ability to regulate, recover, and remain resilient over time.
At the center of the brand’s philosophy is a simple idea: when the skin is compromised, the body feels it. Dryness, irritation, and chronic sensitivity are not isolated surface issues. They require constant compensation from the body, pulling energy toward repair rather than restoration. When the skin barrier is supported and inflammation is eased, the system as a whole functions more smoothly. Sleep improves. Stress becomes easier to manage. The body feels more at home in itself.

A Brand Shaped by Lived Experience
Zack & Lucy was founded by Miriam, a chemist of Nigerian origin whose relationship with skincare began not in a lab, but in her own body. Years of persistent dry, reactive skin exposed the shortcomings of many products marketed as gentle or clean. Irritation persisted, and relief was often fleeting, despite meticulous ingredient lists and encouraging claims.
The apparent paradox was that many skin-healing creams contained substances that were known to irritate the skin in the long run. Despite doing well in the marketplace, formulations containing preservatives, synthetic scents, and stabilizers had negative effects on delicate, irritated skin.
Miriam started making something new instead of looking for a solution all the time.
Both science and tradition inspired her approach. In addition to her science background, she drew inspiration from traditional African beauty methods that have always prioritized the use of natural plant butters, oils, and botanicals, not as frills, but as means of defense and restoration. These practices did not separate beauty from health. They treated skin as something to be supported patiently, over time.
Zack & Lucy grew from this intersection. The result is not trend-driven skincare, but purpose-driven formulation, products designed to work with the skin’s natural processes rather than override them.

Why Ingredient Integrity Matters
Skin is not a passive surface. It takes in information, processes it, and then relays that information to users. Wearing the same things day in and day out adds to the internal dialogue of the body, which in turn affects its sensitivity, balance, and comfort.
Synthetic perfumes, preservatives, and fillers are included in many traditional body care products; these ingredients might irritate the skin or cause mild inflammation. The skin’s protective barrier can be compromised by prolonged exposure, leading to more severe and long-lasting dryness and sensitivity.
The approach taken by Zack & Lucy is restrained. All of our recipes start with organic, raw shea butter that comes from West African women’s cooperatives. The complete nutritional profile of shea butter is preserved in its unrefined form: emollient fatty acids that promote suppleness, reparative vitamins A and E, and naturally occurring chemicals with calming effects.
Raw shea butter strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, unlike evaporative lotions. It helps the skin hold onto moisture, respond more calmly to environmental stress, and maintain comfort throughout the day. When the barrier is strong, the skin requires less constant attention, and feels noticeably more resilient.
Lavender & Sandalwood Body Butter
An Evening Ritual for the Body
The Lavender & Sandalwood Body Butter is designed with the end of the day in mind. Not as a sedative, but as a signal.
The scent is composed and balanced. Lavender appears first, herbal and familiar, but it’s softened by the depth of sandalwood, which brings warmth and grounding. Together, they create an atmosphere that encourages the body to slow down rather than shut off.
This is body care intended to support transition, from activity to rest, from outward focus to inward calm.

Creating Space for Rest
Lavender has long been associated with relaxation, and its use here is purposeful rather than performative. Sandalwood adds another layer, offering a steadying presence that helps quiet mental restlessness. The combination works subtly, not by forcing relaxation, but by creating the conditions for it.
Used after an evening shower, while the skin is still slightly damp, the butter melts gradually into the body. Its texture resists haste. It invites longer strokes, attention to neglected areas, and a slower pace.
Skin feels calmer and more comfortable, but there is also a shift in rhythm, less urgency, easier unwinding, deeper rest. Over time, the ritual itself becomes something the body anticipates.
Sweet Jasmine Body Butter
A Daytime Counterpart
Sweet Jasmine offers a different energy, lighter, brighter, and suited to the start of the day.
The scent is floral but restrained, capturing jasmine in its natural state rather than as perfume. It feels fresh rather than sweet, offering lift without distraction.
Supporting Mood and Resilience
Jasmine is best used during the day because of its calming and balancing effects on the emotions. Rather than overpowering the senses, its presence is understated, popping up at random moments.
Apply it to damp skin after a morning shower for skin that is comfortable all day long. Feel at peace as your skin is nourished with the hydrating and elasticizing shea butter base, and the scent of Sweet Jasmine.
When you’ve had a long or demanding day, you can take a little break and reapply it on your hands, arms, or any exposed skin. A brief inhalation of aroma and touch that aids in re-centering without disturbance.
A Considered Approach to Wellness
Zack & Lucy’s philosophy goes further than a written mission, it’s something they actively live by. Every decision reflects an understanding that well-being is layered and deeply connected.
Their formulas leave out sulfates, parabens, and synthetic fragrances. Shea butter is sourced ethically from women-led cooperatives in West Africa. Packaging is intentionally chosen too: sturdy glass that can be reused or recycled, not discarded without thought.
At the heart of it all is a simple belief, that caring for the planet, tending to emotional balance, and nurturing the skin are not separate acts but part of the same system. And rather than chasing instant results, the focus remains on steadiness, care, and long-term support.

Rejuvenation as Care, Not Correction
Zack & Lucy treats rejuvenation as a steady, lived-in ritual, not an attempt to turn back the clock. By reducing unnecessary strain and supporting the skin’s natural framework, the body is allowed to hold its equilibrium with greater ease over time.
The two body butters work in quiet partnership: Lavender & Sandalwood invites rest and repair, while Sweet Jasmine supports daily strength, softness, and emotional balance. Each has its place, each answers a different need.
Seen this way, body care becomes less about dramatic transformation and more about continuity, thoughtful, unhurried, and designed to last. A patient, attentive, and respectful connection with the body is required, not a magic bullet.
For a world that demands so much of the physical self, that might be the ultimate indulgence.
