Soul Grain is a perfect fusion of two dynamic women whose professional paths put them in a uniquely positioned space to combine their expertise. The formation of the brand is one grounded in nutritional science and brain health’s and the other a culinary artist with cultural expression.
Sylvia brings the soul to the brand, at just 16 years old she earned her cosmetology license, later attending Howard University to sturdy journalism before her heart ultimately lead her into the kitchen. Following her heart into culinary school started 25 plus year career in restaurants in New York, Washington, Anguilla to Los Angeles. Her desserts have featured in gourmet retailer Dean & DeLuca a highlight to creative range and refined technique. Sylvia, wife, mother of two and chef extraordinaire believes food should be expressive and vibrant. She doesn’t believe in wasting calories and time on food that don’t excite the sense. Each recipe she creates must meet her criteria: Delicious, bold and rooted in culture. Granola for her is not a bland breakfast health food, rather it’s the canvas for her storytelling, a way to honor flavors that she grew up with and of course global influences that have shaped her career.
Now meet Liz, Licensed Nutritionist with a master’s degree in nutrition and Functional Medicine, a BA in Psychology and certifications including Dr Amen’s Brain Health Coach training. For over two decades she explored the intricate connection between food, cognitive well-being and mood. She centers her work on the idea of nourishment support the brain as much as the body, with a deep understanding of how we eat influence gut health, energy levels, focus and emotional balance. As a mother to three she firsthand recognizes the importance of foods created for families to enjoy without compromising nutritional integrity. For Liza it’s is an opportunity to intersect selfcare and science, to bring function ingredients, whole grains, fiber rich seeds and anti-inflammatory spices, into everyday lives in a way that revers the clinical but celebrates the joyful. With a strong belief that wellness isn’t restrictive, she instead felt it soul be accessible, flavorful and empowering.
