The Menstrual Cycle: What It Means for Women’s Health, Fertility, and Hygiene

For women, their periods are an important part of their lives. It’s more than just a biological process; it’s a sign of health, a key part of pregnancy, and needs special attention during menstruation. Understanding the cycle can help many women connect with their bodies and take care of their health, whether they’re trying to get pregnant or just getting through their period.

What Is the Menstrual Cycle?

A woman’s body goes through her monthly cycle as she gets ready to possibly get pregnant. The inside of your uterus, the lining, falls off on the first day of your period. You have your period now. After this, the body goes into the follicular phase, which is where eggs start to form. The egg is finally freed. This process is called ovulation. It moves on to the luteal phase if the sperm doesn’t get to the egg. That’s the end of the luteal phase.

It can be anywhere from three to seven days, and each time is different in terms of flow, length, and pain.

Because of these differences, every woman has a different period.

Menstrual Cycles and Conception: Why Tracking Matters

The monthly cycle provides important information to women who want to get pregnant. When a woman ovulates, she is most likely to get pregnant. This usually happens about 14 days before her period. Keeping track of a woman’s monthly cycle helps her figure out when she is most likely to get pregnant.

But cycles that don’t follow a normal pattern can be a sign of problems with fertility. If you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), are worried, or have a problem with your thyroid, your menstrual periods may come and go less often. If your periods are irregular, short, or heavy, see a doctor. It could mean that something is wrong.

A Window into Health

Similar to blood pressure or heart rate, menstrual periods are considered important signs for women. They show that a woman is able to have children. If you have a healthy, normal cycle, it means your reproductive system is working right. However, problems with your periods or ones that don’t come on time could be signs of health problems.

Fibroids or endometriosis can make you bleed a lot, have periods that don’t come on time, or feel a lot of pain. What women eat, how much they work out, and how stressed they are, can all change how often they have their periods.

You can find out a lot about your health by writing down any changes to your cycle. It’s important to talk to a doctor if any strange trends appear.

Cleanliness and Hygiene During Your Period

Proper hygiene during menstruation is essential—not just for comfort but for preventing odors, leakages, and infections. Every woman’s menstrual flow is different, and choosing the right protection can make all the difference.

Light Flow: Pantyliners or pads with low absorbency are generally enough for women with a lighter flow. These pads are not thick and do not get in the way. They protect enough without being too tight or making you feel bad.

Moderate Flow: Many women have small amounts of flow when they are on their periods. To keep things easy, they can use pads or tampons. Women can feel good going about their daily lives with these on, even when they have their periods.

Heavy Flow: A woman with a heavy flow might need pads or tubes that can soak up extra urine. When pads are worn all night, at night, is the best time for strong flows. They help you feel better and stop you from leaking.

A period cup is another good way to deal with a heavy flow. They soak up a lot of water and let you wear them for 12 hours.

Regardless of the flow type, it’s essential to change pads or tampons every four to six hours to prevent bacterial growth, which can lead to infections or unpleasant odors. Menstrual cups, since they can hold more fluid, don’t need to be changed as often but should still be cleaned thoroughly between uses.

Preventing Odors and Maintaining Comfort

Managing odors during menstruation is important for comfort and confidence. Odors can develop when menstrual blood comes into contact with the body’s natural bacteria. To minimize this, women should change their sanitary products regularly and maintain personal hygiene by washing the genital area with warm water. It’s best to avoid using harsh soaps that can cause irritation, and wearing breathable underwear can help reduce moisture and prevent discomfort.

GENIAL DAY®

Vilmante has spent the last 15 years dedicated to improving women’s everyday lives. In her thirties, she embarked on a personal journey to understand the causes behind her irritable and painful periods, as well as recurring yeast infections. Following a thorough study, she found that the chemicals and materials found in regular pads and tampons might be the cause of her problems. So, she could make a better choice, she tried cloth pads made from organic cotton. She looked for something else because they didn’t soak up enough.

Vilmante was determined to find an answer, so she tried a lot of different products and learned a lot about sanitary and health products for women. She didn’t give up, and eventually she found a new kind of sanitary pad that changed the way she thought about menstrual care. These pads, crafted from tourmaline-containing healthcare material, provided both comfort and health benefits. The findings were amazing, and they marked the beginning of a new era in sanitary pad technology.

This discovery led to the creation of GENIAL DAY®, also known as GENTE DAY® in Europe, a line of eco-friendly and hypoallergenic personal hygiene products. GENIAL DAY® is unique because it is willing to try new things and cares about the health of women and the world. That’s why the company works hard to make safe, toxin-free, and very absorbent goods that give customers the most happiness and peace of mind. The word “genial” comes from the words for health, life, and growth. Their goal is to create goods that promote a gentle, healthy, and joyful period for everyone, and this aligns perfectly with their mission.

Along with offering excellent products, GENIAL DAY® is very interested in teaching people about their reproductive health. Through social projects, the company empowers women by raising awareness in schools, supporting women in need, and providing aid to Ukrainian women affected by war. The goal is to help menstruating individuals understand their cycles and view periods as a natural part of life. GENIAL DAY® wants to change the way women feel about their periods by giving them high-quality, useful goods. This will help them have a healthier and more confident experience.

ECO-Certified Regular Flow Pads with Anion Strip

GENIAL DAY’s Regular Flow Pads are more than just what their name suggests. These thin, absorbent pads make comfort and safety the top priorities. They are 240 mm (9.45 in) long and can soak up to 120 ml (4.3 oz) of liquid, which makes them much better than other standard flow pads on the market. Their unique design includes a FAR-IR Anion Strip that protects naturally and absorbs 10 times more than regular pads.

ECO-Certified Absorbent Cotton Liners with Anion Strip

Super soft and made from organic cotton, GENIAL DAY’s Regular Liners offer daily protection without compromising your health. Natural and breathable construction makes these liners the ideal choice for everyday comfort and cleanliness. At 155 mm (6.10 in) long, they are small and modest, but they work very well to keep you fresh all day.

These covers feature a soft, hypoallergenic cotton layer on top, giving them a feel akin to wearing underwear. Venting allows air to flow through the back layer, preventing the accumulation of heat and moisture. This will keep you cool and relaxed, and it will also keep your skin safe. Additionally, their pH balance, lack of chlorine cleaning, and lack of toxins make them safe for daily use.

These liners stand out due to the FAR-IR Anion Strip, a patented technology that provides extra safety. Tourmaline, a natural material, and silver ions, which help stop bacteria from growing and bad smells from spreading, make up the strip. This keeps you clean and fresh all day. It goes beyond what the name of GENIAL DAY’s Regular Flow Pads suggests.

What’s All the Hype Surrounding These Pads?

One of the best things about GENIAL DAY pads is that they are so thin and airy that you might forget you’re wearing them. They keep you dry. The ventilated back layer allows airflow while keeping liquids out. This lowers heat and humidity for a more comfortable time.

In many other ways, these pads are also beneficial for your health. They don’t trigger allergies, possess a neutral pH, are free of chlorine, and don’t contain any toxic substances. The fast-drying top layer keeps your skin dry, and the FAR-IR Anion Strip cleans you up and stops germs from spreading. Although the pads don’t have any added smells, they naturally keep you from smelling bad. Relax during your period with this.

When GENIAL DAY makes its eco-friendly pads, they only use safe, high-quality ingredients. The pad stays dry and the skin doesn’t get upset because the non-woven material doesn’t soak up water. Within seconds, the cellulose layer and cotton pick up blood and move it to the next layer. Japanese material soaks up a lot of liquid and can hold hundreds of times its own weight. This makes it a strong blocker of leaks.

They also thought about the environment when we made the pads. OEKO-TEX® and MADE FOR HEALTH® have cleared them, which means they don’t have any chemicals, heavy metals, dyes, or perfumes that are bad for you.

The mineral tourmaline and silver ions in the FAR-IR Anion Strip not only keep you fresh, but they also help with health during your period.

To use, just take the pad out of its plastic wrapper, put it in your underwear, and fold the wings under to keep it in place. The used pad should be wrapped in toilet paper or the pad wrapper and thrown away.
