The Tale of Herbaria

In 2001, LaRee DeFreece produced the first batch of soap. She had sensitive, dry, sun-damaged skin and was tired of using soaps from the shop. Almost all of them contained harsh detergents and artificial scents. She set out to make an all-natural, mild, moisturizing soap.

She developed the fundamental recipe used to make all Herbaria body bar soaps today after extensive research and several experiments. LaRee sent samples for her family and friends to try. Every time, they gushed to her about how it was “the best soap they had ever used.”

Old-fashioned lye soap, as opposed to detergent, Castile soap, because it’s prepared with olive and other vegetable oils, and cold process soap, as opposed to melt-and-pour soaps are the three names for this kind of soap.

The oils used to make a soap bar determine its characteristics and capabilities. For instance, olive oil is hydrating but does not form a soft bar that lasts or lathers well when applied alone. The combination of numerous vegetable oils used by LaRee results in a deliciously hydrating, long-lasting soap.

Every one of our more than 65 different soap flavors receives an additional moisturizer from Herbaria. This process is known as “superfatting” in the soap industry. This is another approach to make sure you notice the impact Herbaria soaps have on your skin.

Some people could consider our soaps a luxury and refuse to purchase high-quality soap.

Herbaria maintains that authentic soap is essential for having good skin. Use of body washes and commercial bars causes dry, itchy, and irritated skin. They contain harsh detergents and ingredients that can cause allergies, such as artificial perfumes and preservatives.

Herbaria soap produces an excessive amount of lather. They thoroughly moisturize you. Soap and Shampoo Bars are long-lasting. Natural gems like lavender, peppermint, and lemon essential oils are used to produce alluring scents.

Give yourself or someone you care about some simple pleasures every day. Regardless of price, there is no soap of higher quality.

Herbaria soaps originally gained popularity in terms of sales during the Best of Missouri Market at the Missouri Botanical Garden in 2002. LaRee soon went back to practicing law, and her husband Ken Gilberg took over the young company. He has degrees in marketing, botany, culinary, photography, and graphic arts. Ken’s inventiveness and boundless drive propelled the company to new heights and attracted new clients who needed healthier, softer skin.

Herbaria relocated to its current site in 2009, which is a sizable, well-lit shop and workshop on the Hill in St. Louis’ Italian neighborhood. Throughout store hours, you are welcome to take a facility tour. We want you to be aware of the process used to make real soap and why it is beneficial for you.

Herbaria, now in its 21st year of operation, ships to all 50 states as well as more than 60 other nations. Herbaria addicts make up a large portion of their clientele, and they form the basis of everything the company does. They declare that Herbaria soaps have mended their skin issues, including rosacea and eczema. Customers claim they are unable to utilize anything else without experiencing awful side effects.

Two new partners joined the brand’s ownership in 2018. Blake Larson and Melissa Gibbs, a married couple, have each contributed their skills to the company for more than 15 years. Melissa handles everything from marketing and design to customer support and order processing. While being the only soap maker, Blake also supervises the tech side of things and the inventory.

The desire for a new shampoo bar was one of the new partners’ first significant tasks. Numerous test batches and input from colleagues and family led to the creation of an entirely distinct vegetable oil mix composition. Thanks to the staff chemist, the bar’s slickness and the many additional moisturizers designed for scalp use were altered and improved.

Following the analysis of the completely different reactions between users with curly hair and users with straight hair, consider the thickness of the strand of hair you’re using it on to decide whether the disparities between finer and thicker hair exist. Currently, Melissa and Blake are working on creating a conditioner bar that will complement shampoo bars and add any additional softness that is required.

We are happy to have a company dedicated to making vegan items that are all-natural, and safe for people, animals, and the environment. Herbaria takes pride in what they produce. They want it to authentically pervade. Your satisfaction, and pleasure, are promised.

Tea Tree Shampoo Bars

Herbaria Shampoo Bars create an abundance of creamy lather that softly but thoroughly cleanses your hair and leaves it silky, lustrous, and manageable. To keep your hair and scalp healthy, Herbaria’s homemade shampoo bars are made with nourishing, food-grade vegetable oils and rich emollients. The moisturizing properties of the Finer Hair Formula create a lovely lather and make hair soft without weighing it down. The bar’s high oleic sunflower oil makes hair shine. Try this shampoo bar if you’ve ever experienced scalp problems including dandruff, itching, or eczema. This herbal essential oil combination includes Australian Tea Tree, which is well known for promoting healthy hair and scalp. Clary sage, Geranium, Lavender, and Eucalyptus are said to have a special, healthy scent. The bar tan is colored by green tea.

Ingredients Magnifique

Each of the ingredients in the Herbaria Shampoo Bars brings its own benefits to the formulation. Tea Tree Shampoo Bars are solid forms of shampoo that are gaining popularity due to their eco-friendliness and potential benefits for hair and scalp.

Coconut Oil offers deep conditioning and moisturization to your hair. It helps prevent protein loss in your hair, making it stronger and less prone to damage. Coconut Oil has antimicrobial properties that could support a healthy scalp.

Castor Oil helps nourish and strengthen hair follicles. It contains Ricinoleic Acid, which promotes hair growth and can address scalp issues. Castor Oil adds shine and smoothness to your hair.

Mango Butter acts as a natural conditioner, softening and moisturizing your hair. Mango Butter is rich in vitamins and fatty acids that support your hair, help reduce frizz and promote shine.

High Oleic Sunflower Oil contains high levels of Oleic Acid, providing moisture to the hair and scalp. It helps maintain a healthy scalp and can reduce dandruff.

Sodium Lactate acts as a natural humectant, attracting and retaining moisture in your hair. It can improve the texture of the shampoo bar, making it smoother. Retained Glycerin also acts as a humectant, drawing moisture from the environment to the hair. It helps hair retain moisture, making it softer and more manageable.

Green Tea contains antioxidants that can help protect your hair and scalp from environmental damage. Green Tea may help with scalp issues and promote a healthy environment for hair growth.

The essential oil of Australian Tea Tree has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, supporting a healthy scalp. It can help address dandruff and other scalp conditions. Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, and Eucalyptus essential oils may contribute to a pleasing fragrance. Some of them have soothing properties that can promote relaxation during use. Lavender Oil is known for its potential to promote hair growth.

Lavender Oatmeal Soap Bar

Herbaria make their soaps by hand using a procedure known as cold process soap production. To make soap out of the fatty acids in vegetable oils, they employ lye, a powerful base. Through this procedure, the lye is neutralized, and the resulting soap contains no lye. Glycerin, an excellent skin softener, is a helpful by-product of the natural soap-making process. Each bar contains roughly 9% Glycerin. Herbaria incorporates extra moisturizing emollients, like hemp seed oil or shea butter, into the mixture. To provide fragrance, essential oils are used. Plants can be used for texture or color, like oatmeal in the case of the Lavender Oatmeal Soap Bar.

The Magic Lies in the Ingredients

Creating a soap bar using Saponified Olive Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Palm Kernal Oil, Soy Oil, Glycerin, Lavender Essential Oil, Oatmeal, and Shea Butter can offer a wide range of benefits for the skin. Each ingredient brings its own unique properties, and together they can create a nourishing and soothing soap bar.

Saponified Olive Oil is rich in antioxidants and healthy fats, which can help moisturize and nourish the skin. It is gentle and suitable for sensitive skin, providing a smooth and creamy lather that doesn’t strip the skin’s natural oils.

Rice Bran Oil is high in vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids. It is known for its moisturizing and softening properties, making it great for dry or mature skin. It can increase skin suppleness and minimize the visibility of fine wrinkles.

Palm Kernel Oil contributes to a hard bar of soap that lathers well. It contains Lauric Acid, which has antimicrobial properties that can help cleanse the skin. There are concerns about the environmental and ethical impact of Palm Oil production, so using sustainably sourced options is important.

Soy Oil is rich in Vitamin E and fatty acids, providing excellent moisturizing benefits. It can help improve the skin’s texture and promote a more youthful appearance.

Glycerin draws moisture to the skin because it is a natural humectant. It helps keep the skin hydrated and can enhance the overall moisturizing effect of the soap.

Lavender Oil has soothing and calming properties. It can help relax the mind and body, making it a great addition to the nighttime routine. Lavender Oil is known for its potential antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Oatmeal is often used in skincare for its gentle exfoliating and soothing effects. It can help remove dead skin cells, alleviate itching, and calm irritated skin. Oatmeal can be particularly beneficial for those with sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

Shea Butter is a deeply moisturizing ingredient that contains Vitamins E, and A. It is known for its ability to soften and nourish the skin. It can help with conditions like dryness, eczema, and dermatitis.

By combining these ingredients, you can create a soap bar that cleanses, moisturizes, soothes, and nourishes the skin.
